Yeah, pretty sure they don't cover you if you're already out of the country. I tried to get some once while I was in Thailand and they wouldn't let me.

From what I remember it's part of their comprehensive plans. Just double-check when you're getting a quote.

Yeah, I think the newer plans have it built in. It's not like a separate add-on anymore, at least for the main ones.

I've used Allianz for family plans before and they were pretty good with claims. FWD is also popular but I found Allianz's coverage for medical a bit better for my specific trip.

NTUC is usually competitive, but for Japan, I'd probably lean towards Allianz or FWD, especially if you want good medical evacuation coverage. Always compare the fine print though, especially for pre-existing conditions if any.
